18 students in ghastly accident, as tanker crushes man to death

ABEOKUTA- A load of  18-seater bus carrying students  of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State on Tuesday somersaulted several times on Kobape road, along Abeokuta/Sagamu Expressway in Obafemi Owode local Governmentarea of Ogun state, leaving three of them critically injured while others  sustained various degree of  injuries.

Also almost at the same time, Tragedy struck  at the Aripako compound Oke-Sokori,in Abeokuta as one of the sons of the family, Nureni Makinde 30, was killed by a petrol tanker.
Vanguard gathered that, the students  were on their way to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in continuation of their peaceful protest against the recent  scrapping  of their university by the state government when  the front tyre of one of their buses suddenly  burst and veered  off  the road thereby somersaulting severally.
According to eye witness, all the students were rushed to Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta where three of them were said to have sustained serious injuries.
When Vanguard got to the hospital, there was anxiety over the condition of some  students who were identified as Olayemi Alaka,  300 level student of Mass Communication, Oyewole Moshood, 400 level Telecommunication,while the condition of one Fashina Olatunji (Humble TJ), 400 level, Health Education, was said to be a state of coma.
Speaking with newsmen at the FMC, Idi Aba, President of the Students’ Union, Oyekanmi Abdullahi, said the students were on their way to meet and plead with the state governor, Commissioner for Education as well as the Chief Judge of the state to rescind the decision that scrapped their university.
He however stated that the students were resolute in their demand to force the state government  to reverse its decision on the planned conversion of  TASUED to  an institution under the Faculty of Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye.
Meanwhile, a 30 year old man and father of three, Nureni Makinde has been killed in his family compound by a petrol tanker.
According to an eye witness, the accident occurred at about 10:15am Tueday, when  the petrol tanker  took a one-way lane due to the on-going road re-construction project at Ibara/ Ita Eko/ Totoro road
and crushed Nureni, who was crossing the road.
