Anambra Police File Criminal Defamation Charges Against ACN Members Over Ekwunife

Mrs. Uche Ekwunife

The  Anambra State Police Command has filed criminal defamation charges against some Action Congress of Nigeria members in Njikoka local government area in the state.
The criminal charges filed against three party supporters by a police inspector, Moses Amafor, who accused the ACN members of defaming  Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia federal constituency.
The charges alleged that the accused persons defamed Ekwunife by accusing her of embezzling funds meant for constituency projects. The complaints said they  claimed the projects had been deliberately commenced very close to the election period so that she could use those for election purposes. They described her actions as a "scam." The charge sheet also claimed the accused persons tore into Ekwunife's private life describing it as  nothing to write home about.
The accused persons were charged before Magistrate Ugolo of Anambra State judiciary sitting at State CID Headquarters in Awka.
However, the accused were granted bail by the Magistrate who observed that the charges were politically motivated aimed at keeping the ACN members in custody till after the election to the advantage of APGA candidates in the national assembly elections.
