Why We Denied Campbell Visa – Envoy

The Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC has denied allegations that it denied a former United States envoy to Nigeria, Ambassador John Campbell, a Visitor’s Visa as a result of his negative statements about the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Contrary to the feelings from some quarters, the Nigerian Embassy, through its ambassador, Prof. Adebowale Adefuye, has declared that the embassy did not give the former U.S envoy any negative treatment, stressing that the visa section of the Chancery has stipulated conditions which must be met before any visa could be granted to anybody.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Friday afternoon, Ambassador Adebowale Adefuye said that Ambassador John Campbell was refused the visa he demanded as a result of incomplete documentation.
According to him, “Campbell applied for a visa to enable him attend a meeting of the Governing Council of the American University of Nigeria, owned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as a member of the council but he did not meet the requirement regarding the timing of application and issuance of visas as stipulated by the Embassy.”
Professor Adefuye continued that  the former United States ambassador to Nigeria submitted his visa application on May 5, 2011, to attend the event on May 11, 2011, as a member of the Governing Council of the American university of Nigeria, but did not give any proof to show that he is truly a member of the University’s Governing Council.
“The visa section informed Campbell to send in a proof to show his membership of the university’s Governing Council as he claimed,” he added.
The Nigerian envoy pressed further that it was so late for the embassy to issue the visa because it got the proof that John Campbell is truly a member of the university’s Governing Council very late, stressing that the visa was denied as a result of time factor.
“The Embassy contacted him over this decision, but he refused to tell the Embassy why he had to be given the visa even when it became clear that he could not travel to Nigeria to attend the event that made him apply for the visa in the first place,” Adefuye further said.
He also declared that it was all lies that the Embassy refused to grant Ambassador Campbell the visa because of his antagonism to the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Report .While still sponsoring numerous terrorist bombing and media strikes aimed at destroying Nigeria and fulfilling his prophecy that Nigeria will be no more after the 2011 elections, I cannot understand why this Al-Qaeda terrorist masquerading as a US envoy wants to come to Nigeria (Northern Nigeria to be specific). What does he want in a country that does not exist in his warped and insane mind. Foolish, largely uninformed and ignorant mad men like John Campbell must not be allowed to enter Nigeria as we are not ready to waste our resources in order to provide him psychiatric support while he is in Nigeria. Let him permanently stay in the US while we are tackling the problem of terrorism which he and those who invited him, unjustly levied against the people of Northern Nigeria. The North of Nigeria from now grappling with the problem of terrorism sponsored by John Campbell and his unpatriotic Nigeria allies who are members the so called Northern elite. .

Report .@Umar Sanusi: I agree with you completely except for the fact that I recommend that John Campbell should only be allowed to travel to his operational headquarters in Afghanistan/Pakistan were he will gain the opportunity to work closely with Al-Qeada and the Taliban as he continues to provide them with leadership and covert cover in the US. Well known terrorist like John Campbell must never be issued Visa to enter Nigeria. John Campbell is indeed a huge security risk. .

Report .Nigeria is at liberty to issue visas or not issue visas irrespective of documentation. if the guy has been running is mouth and saying crap, that is enough grounds for him to be blacklisted from entering nigeria and by extension, the ecowas zone. america has close to 500,000 people who are closely monitored and interrogated if at all they seek to enter the usa. furthermore, an additional 4000 people are prevented from boarding flights to the usa. no one questions the usa for doing this. why should anyone question nigeria for excluding this rabble rouser. .

Report .Umar Sanusi i advise you be confident and bold to bear your true name. You are no where close to a nothern Nigerian extraction. You are a southerner who want to play game of deceit (Nigerian factor). The reason given by Nigerian ambassador to US was baseless and childish. An ambassador is a gentle man and should not be made to tell lies to save his job .

Report .The South West has advanced in civil behaviour above other parts of Nigeria, we should emulate the west. The south will be happy to see Nigeria divided into four countries, 19 northern states as Arewa Republic, South west as Odua Republic, South east as Biafra Republic and south south as Delta Republic. The later three will be happy but the north will oppose it so that people like Atiku will keep building Universities. Where did a Customs officer get all these money from. .

Report .Nigeria has the right to approve visa to bona fide applicants who pose no security threats to visit, from any part of the world. However Nigeria should not welcome any trouble makers...HE John Campbell to Former Ambassador to Nigeria understands there are many ways to communicate his feelings to government but rather chose to talk to Atiku & co., and go public. His visa application outcome definitely sends a message...Don't take Nigeria for granted. However, while I commend the Nigeria Embassy in Washington for this decision, the Nigeria leadership needs to be open to criticism regardless of where its coming from. Sometimes it helps to encourage you to adjust and move on. Nigeria should not oblige HE John Campbell with the platform for his diatribe against her leaders, some of whom did their best given the circumstances
